Honyoung New Era: A Dendriform Spatial Organism

Revitalizing Urban Spaces with Pudo Architecture Design Co.,Ltd

Unveiling the Honyoung New Era, a unique architectural project by Pudo Architecture Design Co.,Ltd, inspired by the organic system of a "big tree". This innovative design breathes new life into an old building, reshaping the environment with a dendriform spatial organism.

The Honyoung New Era project is a testament to the transformative power of design. Formerly an office and production plant building, this 26,000 square meter structure has undergone a complete internal and external remodeling. The L-shaped building, with six floors above ground, has been redesigned with versatility, flexibility, comfort, landmark, and economic efficiency in mind.

One of the unique features of this project is the facade and architectural form remodeling. The design team restored the basic architectural composition logic and adopted a glass curtain wall with exterior decorative sun-shading grille and a white stone curtain wall as the main exterior finishing materials. The east and west sides of the building, primarily for exhibition along the street, are emphasized with controlled lighting surface and vertical decorative sun-shading grille, creating a modern and concise facade image.

The internal space of the building is reorganized like a tree. A new set of vertical traffic cores are inserted into the original building to form the "backbone". Three two-storey full-height lobbies are arranged at the first floor to form the "foundation". The new atrium, full height from the first to the sixth floor, and the pyramid-shaped space that is narrowed storey by storey, bring natural light into the building. Three new multi-storey aerial courtyards introduce the urban landscape into the building, creating a more interesting architectural space.

The project started in August 2018 and was completed in September 2010 in Beijing, China. The design team faced two significant challenges: creating a new facade image without changing the original contour as much as possible, and transforming the original factory space, which was only used for industrial production, into a space suitable for people's office life. The project required high cooperation in architecture, structure, mechanical and electrical equipment.

The Honyoung New Era project has been recognized for its innovative design and was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
